Toy Story 2 is the sequel to blockbuster animated feature film, Toy Story. Like its predecessor, even this film was developed and produced by Pixar Animation Studios. Directed by John Lasseter, this animated film stars the voices of Tom Hanks, Joan Cusack, Tim Allen and Kelsey Grammer. Released in 1999 nearly 5 years after the first part, the story of this film takes off after a few years from the time of the events that took place in Toy Story. This film, upon its release, became the highest-grossing animated film of 1999, earning as much as $ 245 in America and $ 485 worldwide. The critical reception was no less celebrated, with a number of reputed film critics giving it rave reviews.
The two main characters from the first part, Woody and Buzz Lightyear, are the ones who play the lead again in this part. While Woody is a cowboy pull-string doll played by Tom Hanks, Buzz Lightyear is a Space Ranger action figure played by Tim Allen. The vocal synthesis between the two great actors, Tim Allen and Tom Hanks, is brilliantly portrayed in this animated film. Made for kids but with subtle humour that can be enjoyed by adults as well, Toy Story 2 starts off a scene where Woody is preparing to go with Andy to a cowboy camp.
Andy Davis, as some may remember, is the boy from the original Toy Story who owns a collection of toys including Woody and Buzz Lightyear. Woody, in this thrilling sequel, is kidnapped by a toy collector who owns a toy shop called Al’s Toy Barn. In the absence of Andy, who’s gone away to cowboy camp, Buzz, Slinky Dog, Rex and Mr. Potato Head take it upon themselves to go out and rescue Woody.
This version of Toy Story 2 is available in DVD format and comes as a single disc. It has been rated U (Universal) and was released by Disney studios. This movie has an overall runtime of 88 minutes and is in English.
