WHAT IT IS The Colca Rain Poncho is a full-length, free-size hooded poncho built for the Indian monsoon. One piece, 117 cm wide by 138 cm long, 350 g, cut for 5’6″ to 6’2″. It goes on over whatever you are already wearing and comes off in seconds. WHY PU 2000 MM MATTERS The fabric is polyester with a 2000 mm PU coating. That rating means it holds a two-metre column of water before it leaks, which is heavy-monsoon rated rather than shower-resistant. The seams are sealed, so water does not track in through the stitching. Most ponchos at this price are single-use polyethylene sheets. This one is built to be worn all season, every season. IT FITS OVER YOUR BACKPACK The oversized cut clears a loaded 30 to 40 litre daypack without pulling at the shoulders, so your bag, laptop and clothes stay dry with you. There are no sleeves – the wide open cut reaches over your hands, which is what makes it work at the handlebars of a bike or scooter. THREE THINGS, ONE PIECE OF KIT Unsnap the side press-studs and the poncho lays flat as a camping tarp for emergency shelter, or as a dry ground sheet to sit on. On a trek that is three items you no longer carry. PACKS AWAY AND DISAPPEARS Folds into its own carry pouch, roughly the size of a water bottle, and lives in a backpack, saddlebag or glovebox until it rains. At 350 g it is real coated fabric rather than a disposable plastic sheet. CARE AND COLOURS Hand wash in cold water and air dry.
