Epic 2013 is based on a children’s book, The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs, by William Joyce. Truly matching up to its name, Epic, narrates the story of a 17 year old teenager, Mary Katherine or M.K. Through a dramatic turn of events, M.K is transported to the Bomba forest, where an epic battle is about to take place between the forces of good and evil. The Epic movie follows her journey, where she teams up with a group of rag-tag characters to save their world from the evil Boggan leader, Mandrake. In Epic 2013, Amanda Seyfried lends her voice to M.K. and Josh Hutcherson to Nod, her love interest. M.K is supported by Ronin (Colin Farrel), Queen Tara (Beyone Knowles), Mub (Aziz Ansari) and Professor Bomba (Jason Sudeikis), who all battle against Mandrake (Christopher Waltz).
M.K moves in with her eccentric scientist father, Mr. Bomba, who has been searching for tiny humanoid soldiers, Leafmen. They protect the Bomba Forest from Mandrake, the evil leader of the Boggans. The queen of the forest, Tara, is about to choose an heir to her throne, when Mandrake and his Boggan army attack. While her troops suffer in battle, Tara flees with Ronin but is shot and mortally wounded. M.K., who is looking for her dog in the Bomba forest sees Tara falling and reaches out to help. In an attempt to set things right, Tara gives M.K a pod and shrinks her to the size of the Leafmen. What follows, is a story of friendship, love and bravery amidst the turbulent times of war.
